"If not bureaucratic, the law can be called inflexible since the procedures for the victim get to the shelter are very complicated".

... A round table meeting organized in the frame of the campaign in Zugdidi, was attended by local authorities, non-governmental sector, the police agencies, social services, groups of IDPs and local community. According to the participants, the meeting was very fruitful, and in the future it will help to improve the situation that exists in terms of the protection of victims of domestic violence, violence prevention, and consolidation of society.

The meeting was also attended by the representatives of the EUMM. They mentioned that public debate on these issues is very important and a big part is assign to civil campaigns that consolidate all people of good will.

Evaluation training – this was the title of the training held in fund "Sukhumi". Participants of the training tried to assess peacemaiking activity carried out over the past two years.

Through interactive, discussions and group exercises participants had the opportunity to express their views on the following issues: how the role of woman in Georgia is evaluated today, whether her potential is used or not.

Participants discussed the main reasons that hinder the use of women's potential in peaceful resolution of conflict.

According to the participants of the training, they were given the opportunity to make a serious analysis from a gender perspective, what results would the full use of women's potential bring in negotiation process. During the analysis they emphasized that inclusion of women's resource in these processes, will bring positive change to peaceful resolution of conflict.

The project is implemented with the support of Kvinna till Kvinna, women’s Swedish Foundation.

Fund "Sukhumi” is actively involved in the international 16-day Campaign Against Gender Based Violence Against Women.

Since November 25 social advertising of Fund "Sukhumi” has been transmitted on Public broadcast of Georgia, on TV Rioni (Kutaisi) and "9th Wave” (Poti).

A radio programme was broadcasted on air of radio "Dzveli kalaki” (Kutaisi). Listeners were provided with information about the campaign and a monologue of a victim of violence.

After transmission of the advertising over 10 phone calls were accepted from women who needed psychological and legal counseling.

Fund "Sukhumi" took part in the National Cuisine Festival, organized in the village Khurcha (an administrative unit on the separation line of Abkhazia). At the Festival were presented Gurian, Imeretian, Abkhazian, Ossetian, Meskhetian, Svanetian, Racha-Lechkhumian, and Ukrainian dishes.

The members of Ozurgeti Club of Women-Voters treated participants of the Festival to delicious Gurian dishes - satsivi, gvezeli, mchadi, cheese, lobio.

Gurian cuisine deserves special sympathy and activists of Fund "Sukhumi" were awarded with certificates...

Information about the campaign was posted on facebook page of Fund "Sukhumi” on the first day of the campaign. Internet users had the opportunity to show their position in on-line.

On November 26, at 12 o’clock activists, mobilizers and volunteers of Fund "Sukhumi” conducted simultaneous actions in eight towns of Western Georgia (Kutaisi, Tskhaltubo, Khoni, Senaki, Zugdidi, Ozurgeti, Khurcha, Poti, Batumi).

In particular: informational meetings at local authorities, Sakrebulo, municipalities, city halls, in different collective centres, at central streets, in schools, kindergartens, at higher institutions. Citizens were provided with the information about the 16-day campaign. There were distributed calendars, posters, leaflets and the symbol of the campaign – white ribbons prepared within the framework of the campaign of Fund "Sukhumi”. Over 6000 people participated in the actions. Members of the Club of Women-Voters met with representatives of local authorities – municipalities and City Halls.

The information about the campaign was spread at the meeting of Sakrebulo in Ozurgeti and covered in the local newspapers "Alioni”, "TV Adjaria”, "TV Rioni”, "9th Wave”.

On November 27 in the Women’s Support Centre of Senaki was held a round table on the theme: "Protection of Victims of Domestic Violence and Violence Prevention”. The meeting was attended by representatives of local self-government, social services, law enforcement bodies, teachers and women IDPs.

Round tables on the aforementioned topic were held in Tskhaltubo (30.11.12), Poti (03.12.12), and Kutaisi (5.12.12).

During the round table meetings there were defined problems related to the protection of victims of violence and elaborated relevant recommendations and proposals that will contribute to effective use of legal mechanisms and consolidation of society for the purpose of violence prevention.

On the same day participants of the School of Young Women-Leaders actively involved in the campaign too. At the initiative of Kutaisi group there was held a Round table on the topic "Issue access to education of IDP youth” in Fund "Sukhumi”. Round tables on the topic of violence were also organized in Khurcha (30.11.12), Khoni (28.11.12), and Tskhaltubo (29.11.12).

In public schools of Kutaisi (# 3 and # 5), in the House of elderly and in school # 2 in Senaki were held forum-theatre performances on the theme of violence. Audience was actively involved in the problem discussion and search of the ways of solution.

30 women participated in the workshop on the theme of violence held in Koki. Participants of the workshop got information about the campaign.

This year, the image of the 16-day campaign of fund "Sukhumi" against violence against women is a football team "Torpedo Kutaisi."

The football match, held on December 2, began with the action of fund "Sukhumi". Members of the School for Young Women-Leaders distributed leaflets, booklets and posters among football fans.

Over 5000 people gathered at the stadium on this day, were informed about the campaign against violence against women and joined the call - Together against violence!

Prior to the match there was broadcasted a social radio reel prepared by Fund "Sukhumi" specially within the framework of the campaign.

It is symbolic that this day, the football match was won by the team "Torpedo Kutaisi".

Events planned within the framework of the campaign will continue in the coming days.

Information meetings in different IDP collective centers have been continued in the frame of the 16-day campaign.

Mobilizer of Kutaisi Women's Support Centre of Fund "Sukhumi" conducted information meetings in three collective centres - the former pharmacy and tractor plant buildings (already owned by IDPs), Culinary School.

Participants said that they condemn violence against women and join the global protest.

Attendees were given leaflets, calendars, posters, released in the frame of the campaign.

Women IDPs expressed their desire to spread information about the campaign in their communities and contribute to the creation anti-violence attitude in society.
