The cycle of Youth debates is still going on. The topic: Human Security
appeared to be vital and people gathered in six Youth Centers express their
opinion, discuss seven components of human security, and determine their share
in problem solving.
On February in Kutaisi Youth Centre was held the regular meeting. Young
people regard that many components of human security are violated, and we face
so many problems in everyday life, that the feeling of insecurity is natural.
That’s why we should act and create the safer atmosphere to live in.
On February 18, the meeting in
Poti highlighted the ecological hazards the population is facing due to the
problem with fishing industry. The high rate of unemployment is a hazardous
factor as well, as it is termed as the number one problem people are afraid of.
The youth declared that they often create unsafe situation themselves,
so we should protect each other’s rights.
The debates on "Human Security" will and up in Khurcha, were the local
youth young people from Kutaisi will sum up their activities.

The discussion of human security, held in
Tskhaltubo Youth Center was very interesting.
Only a few participants mentioned that they
are afraid of global hazard such as rising of new conflicts, inner
destabilization and political instability.
Other participants said that they regard
unemployment, feeling of insecurity, injustice and the general fear of future
as serious hazards.
One of participants mentioned, that she is
afraid of violence, because she sees that women are frequent victims of
domestic violence.
The debates were important for participants
as it was the first time when they discussed human security in such a profound
mode.
They mentioned that solving some problems
will help us to guarantee our own safety – for example, protecting our rights
and rights of other people, contributing to the creation of violence free
atmosphere.

- Being safe means that the food I eat is not harmful for
my health.
- I should not be afraid to go outside at night.
- There should be no violence.
These are the conclusions young people made at the Khoni
Youth Centre debates, dedicated to the topic of human security.
Majority of the participants highlighted that their first
association with security is the concept of peace which is natural, taking into
consideration the specific conditions of our country and the hazards that are
easy to notice.
The participants frankly admitted that it was the first
time they had thought about the components of human security.
They mentioned that sometimes people wittingly or
unwittingly create the unsafe atmosphere themselves, e.g. pollute the
environment, eat unhealthy food, violate on others.
The discussions on the topic of security will be
continued at other Youth Centres.
The topic of Kutaisi Youth Centre discussion –
"Violence” still remains acute, considering the on-going situation all over the
world.
The meeting was accompanied with a workshop, conducted
by the volunteers of fund "Sukhumi” Helen and Sofia Schroders. Three forms of
violence were discussed: personal, structural and cultural. Summing up the
meeting, the youth recalled real-life cases and discussed the mechanisms of
coping with violence.
According to them peaceful environment will be created
by the improvement of their awareness, personal qualities, increase in their
tolerance and the knowledge of their rights.
Young people planned a visit to village Khurcha to

students, pupils from Zugdidi, Koki and Khurcha, and members of Senaki Youth
Cener. Their participation made the
meeting more interesting. This theme became
relevant to young people, as most of them were addicted to such games and
despite the fact that all of them know about the harm of gambling, it is very
difficult for them to reject.
As there was noticed, statistically, 35%
of the population is fond of gambling, which increases the level of crime and
the number of divorces.
The young people agreed that it is
possible to get rid of gambling by different habits: reading, intellectual
growth, sports, healthy lifestyle...
During the debate there were raised
several antigambling initiatives. Young people expressed a strong desire to
participate in further events.

Modern professions and employment perspectives – was the theme of active
discussion of young people in Poti.
Most
of participants mentioned that among the modern professions the leading
faculties are: economic, business, foreign languages, as these spheres are more
prospective in terms of employment.
However
in their opinion Diploma of higher education can’t serve as a guarantee of
employment.
-How
to get a job? How can we raise the interest of an employer? What is necessary?
These were the main questions of the discussion.
As
young people think, cooperation with non-governmental organizations, meetings
and trainings raise self-esteem and help people identify their strengths.

Youth Center re-started its activity from the New Year by organizing the
debate. Young people have chosen the following issue for
the discussion - religious minorities and society.
During
the discussion they mentioned that this problem really exists in our society. They
talked about specific examples when representatives of different sects became
objects of aggression from society, which often ended in conflict.
In
the opinion of young people, the rights of religious minorities must not be
violated, and society should be more tolerant.
According
to the participants of the debate, educational talks on this topic should be
carried out often, especially with teenagers. This will significantly reduce
the negative results.

Social
problems cause serious reasons for family conflicts, but it is possible to
manage these conflicts if both sides are interested in their solution– such
opinions were heard at the debates held in Tskhaltubo by the Youth Centre.
In
young people’s opinion it is not easy to solve social problems, but sometimes
their solution does not mean solution of family conflicts. One problem is
followed by the second, the second by the third…Reasons are endless. It is
possible to avoid conflicts through communication and proper relations.

active. In their words Georgian mentality is so strong that transformation
would take years. Therefore if we really want to change the result, we should
start by ourselves.
Khurcha
