On May 15, at 3 a.m. the "Gender Equality Network" and "The Journalist's Network on Gender Equality" held large-scale action-performance in front of the Parliament building - "Choose Democracy".

In the event there were actively involved the women activists of Women Support Centers, Clubs of Women Voters and the School of Young Women Leaders of Fund "Sukhumi”, representing Kutaisi, Khoni, Senaki, Tskhaltubo, Ozurgeti, Poti, Batumi, Khobi, as well as the students from different institutes.

The representatives of local NGOs and local self-government joined the action and expressed their support. There were also presented many journalists from regional and national media, including TV.

The event in front of the Parliament, which united about 1000 people, once again reminded the public, parliament and government representatives to support democracy, women's political empowerment, and work actively for promotion of gender equality.

A round table meeting in Senaki was attended by teachers, housewives, and members of the local government.

Attendees discussed the issue on how the socio-economic background and political environment should be changed to mobilize women and achieve gender equality.

The participants noted that women fail to show sufficient solidarity. According to them, if there was gender equality, social and economic situation would have been much better.

Roundtable participants agreed that the protection of their rights, achievement of gender equality and improvement of women’s situation is possible only if women are active and united.

The Club of Women-Voters of Poti joined the action dedicated to the day of women's solidarity. The event in the format of a roundtable meeting was attended by Club members, active women leaders, local media, and representatives of local government. Particular emphasis was placed on the following issues - what should be done to ensure that women in their city were fully involved in the socio-political processes.

According to the participants, women should be more active to change the situation around and become full fledged members of society.

 The same day, a round table meeting was held in the Women’s Support Centre. According to the participants women should be more active to protect their rights.

30 women attended the action held in the village of Khurcha in the format of a round table meeting.

Participants talked with interest about how the situation around them should be changed and how women should be mobilized to achieve gender equality.

The business part of the event ended with a festive mood. Participants of the School of Young Women Leaders held an event dedicated to the 8th of March. They read poems, sang, and danced. Kids from kindergarten brought into the action even more festive mood.

 In this idyll – forum-theatre of Fund "Sukhumi" with a scene of violence ... and the staff of Fund "Sukhumi" with red balls...

 Fund "Sukhumi" has celebrated the Day of Love with that unusual action.

 The forum-theatre performance caused debate among passers-by who gathered in the park. They supported the essence and appeal of the action: Violence is evil! Love- without violence!

-  Social clips are being transmitted on TV and radio;

-  Over 1 000 000 people got information about violence against women;

Fund "Sukhumi” is actively involved in the international 16-day Campaign Against Gender Based Violence Against Women.

Since November 25 social advertising of Fund "Sukhumi” has been transmitted on Public broadcast of Georgia, on TV Rioni (Kutaisi) and "9th Wave” (Poti).

A radio programme was broadcasted on air of radio "Dzveli kalaki” (Kutaisi). Listeners were provided with information about the campaign and a monologue of a victim of violence.

After transmission of the advertising over 10 phone calls were accepted from women who needed psychological and legal counseling.

Fund "Sukhumi" took part in the National Cuisine Festival, organized in the village Khurcha (an administrative unit on the separation line of Abkhazia). At the Festival were presented Gurian, Imeretian, Abkhazian, Ossetian, Meskhetian, Svanetian, Racha-Lechkhumian, and Ukrainian dishes.

The members of Ozurgeti Club of Women-Voters treated participants of the Festival to delicious Gurian dishes - satsivi, gvezeli, mchadi, cheese, lobio.

Gurian cuisine deserves special sympathy and activists of Fund "Sukhumi" were awarded with certificates...

Information about the campaign was posted on facebook page of Fund "Sukhumi” on the first day of the campaign. Internet users had the opportunity to show their position in on-line.

On November 26, at 12 o’clock activists, mobilizers and volunteers of Fund "Sukhumi” conducted simultaneous actions in eight towns of Western Georgia (Kutaisi, Tskhaltubo, Khoni, Senaki, Zugdidi, Ozurgeti, Khurcha, Poti, Batumi).

In particular: informational meetings at local authorities, Sakrebulo, municipalities, city halls, in different collective centres, at central streets, in schools, kindergartens, at higher institutions. Citizens were provided with the information about the 16-day campaign. There were distributed calendars, posters, leaflets and the symbol of the campaign – white ribbons prepared within the framework of the campaign of Fund "Sukhumi”. Over 6000 people participated in the actions. Members of the Club of Women-Voters met with representatives of local authorities – municipalities and City Halls.

The information about the campaign was spread at the meeting of Sakrebulo in Ozurgeti and covered in the local newspapers "Alioni”, "TV Adjaria”, "TV Rioni”, "9th Wave”.

On November 27 in the Women’s Support Centre of Senaki was held a round table on the theme: "Protection of Victims of Domestic Violence and Violence Prevention”. The meeting was attended by representatives of local self-government, social services, law enforcement bodies, teachers and women IDPs.

Round tables on the aforementioned topic were held in Tskhaltubo (30.11.12), Poti (03.12.12), and Kutaisi (5.12.12).

During the round table meetings there were defined problems related to the protection of victims of violence and elaborated relevant recommendations and proposals that will contribute to effective use of legal mechanisms and consolidation of society for the purpose of violence prevention.

On the same day participants of the School of Young Women-Leaders actively involved in the campaign too. At the initiative of Kutaisi group there was held a Round table on the topic "Issue access to education of IDP youth” in Fund "Sukhumi”. Round tables on the topic of violence were also organized in Khurcha (30.11.12), Khoni (28.11.12), and Tskhaltubo (29.11.12).

In public schools of Kutaisi (# 3 and # 5), in the House of elderly and in school # 2 in Senaki were held forum-theatre performances on the theme of violence. Audience was actively involved in the problem discussion and search of the ways of solution.

30 women participated in the workshop on the theme of violence held in Koki. Participants of the workshop got information about the campaign.

This year, the image of the 16-day campaign of fund "Sukhumi" against violence against women is a football team "Torpedo Kutaisi."

The football match, held on December 2, began with the action of fund "Sukhumi". Members of the School for Young Women-Leaders distributed leaflets, booklets and posters among football fans.

Over 5000 people gathered at the stadium on this day, were informed about the campaign against violence against women and joined the call - Together against violence!

Prior to the match there was broadcasted a social radio reel prepared by Fund "Sukhumi" specially within the framework of the campaign.

It is symbolic that this day, the football match was won by the team "Torpedo Kutaisi".

Activists of the Women's Support Center in Kutaisi met with representatives of Kakhianauri, Dzelkviani and Ukimerioni Municipalities and told them about the international 16-day campaign and participation of Fund "Sukhumi" in the campaign.

They distributed there white ribbons – the campaign symbol and informational materials: calendars, posters, booklets.

Schools, central market and street, and adjoining territory - in these places population of the town learned about the international campaign, its theme and slogan. Materials were distributed with the slogan "Together - Against Violence! Violence is Evil! "

At 12 p.m. in collective centers of IDPs (sanatoriums "Friendship", "Sakartvelo", "Intourist", "Kutaisi" and "Metalurg") was launched an informational campaign.

The objective of the action is dissemination of information about the 16-day international campaign. Mobilizers of the WSC also provided population with the information about the involvement of Fund "Sukhumi", its activists and society in the struggle against violence against women.

Informational action within the 16-day campaign was held in the new settlement of IDPs, in the training center and in the adjacent areas.

Among the groups of IDPs and the local population were distributed white ribbons, calendars, leaflets and booklets printed for the campaign.

The action was held by the mobilizers and activists of the WSC.

They answered questions of citizens about the history of the campaign, the involvement of Fund "Sukhumi" and activities of the WSC.

Members of the Club of Women-Voters introduced local government and population with the objective of the Action.

Leaflets and calendars were distributed in the central streets of the city and in front of the local municipality Sakrebulo.

The action was organized by members of the women’s club. They note that society recognizes the need to address the problem of violence.

Journalists of the local television "Mega TV" made a special report, devoted to the 16-day campaign against violence against women.

Men expressed special interest to the action. As a symbolic gift they were given white ribbons.
