In
January, a lawyer of Fund "Sukhumi" met with women IDPs in Women's
Support Centers in Kutaisi, Tskhaltubo and Khoni. Participants of the meetings were
provided with information about family law (marriage) based on the current
legislation.
The meeting
in Khoni was mostly attended by young women. The conversation touched on the
negative and positive aspects of early marriage, the expected risks.
They
listened with interest to legal counseling - what divorce legally means, and
which procedures it includes.
The women,
who gathered in Kutaisi, were particularly interested in the issue of IDPs resettlement.
It was noted that they have no information about what has changed in the IDP strategy
after the change of government.
A
woman in the WSC of Tskhaltubo was interested in the issue of payment of
alimony for minor children and was provided with individual counseling.
Participants
of the meetings mentioned that legal counseling helps them solve problems in
legal way.

The theme of meetings with lawyers of the Women's Support Centers (Kutaisi, Tskhaltubo, Khoni, Senaki, Poti and Khurcha) concerned the family law, including: marriage and the age of marriage, divorce and its legal procedures, alimony and determination of their size, as well as legal issues related to the legalization of housing for IDPs.
Meetings have shown once again that these themes are relevant to the IDPs. Particular emphasis was placed on age of marriage (18 years) and the exceptions allowed by law (written parental consent to marriage of minors).
During the counseling participants mentioned that divorce among IDPs is perceived as a means for getting more living space. They were explained that such an approach to the problem is unreasonable.
The interest of IDPs in connection with orders for residential area was also satisfied at the meetings.
Both IDPs and local residents are interested in legal counseling in provided in the Centres (among them are students and school children).
In May, there were held six meetings.

In March
three informational meetings on legal issues (consultations) were held for IDPs
in Women’s Support Centres. The objective of the meetings was to render
counseling on issues important to IDPs (human rights, violence and protection mechanisms
against violence, problem of resettlement – respectively housing rights and rights
and guarantees for the protection of IDPs from groundless eviction,
registration of estate, alimony and defining of the amount of alimony).
The special
attention was paid to the constitutional rights of IDPs to the selection of premise
during the resettlement.
"IDPs
are accustomed to the place where they’ve been living for many years, so
another change of housing is a very painful process for them”.
It is very
important for us to have the detailed information about our rights during the
resettlement and the lawyer of Fund "Sukhumi” provides it for us, - said
participants of the meetings.

Six group meetings (consultations) of psychologist were held in Women’s Support Centres of Kutaisi, Tskhaltubo, and Khoni. Participants of the meetings were women IDPs aged 17 to 55.
The theme of the meeting was "What a modern woman should be like?”
Participants of the meetings mentioned that today woman is very busy and often takes on the burden that she can not cope with. She has to prove that she is strong. And in this daily struggle she loses her femininity and acquires masculine qualities.
"We should remember that woman has always been a symbol of gentleness, kindness and love. Women, unlike men, have a sixth sense - intuition, which helps them to overcome obstacles. Woman should love and respect herself, - advises the psychologist.

The objective of the meetings was to raise civic awareness of IDPs that they could protect their rights. The lawyer was asked different questions, in particular: Цhat measures should be taken by an IDP to solve problems of privatization? Are the basic needы of IDPs taken into account while providing them with premises? Are there any benefits for teenagers being operated?
In October were held six meetings of the lawyer in Women’s Support centres (Kutaisi, Tskhaltubo, Khoni, Poti, Senaki and Khurcha).

Meetings of the specialist on reproductive health were attended by IDP women and girls of different ages. The following issues were discussed at the meetings:breastfeeding and woman’s hygiene after childbirth, fibroma, birth control pills etc.
The specialist’s meetings are very important. This is proved by the fact that that after consulting with the doctor, a woman IDP living in collective centre of Tskhaltubo was timely operated.
In October the specialist on reproductive health conducted six meetings in the Women’s Support Centres in Kutaisi, Tskhaltubo, Khoni, Senaki and Khurcha.

Meetings with a lawyer have been continued in the Women's Support Centers (Kutaisi, Khoni, Tskhaltubo, Senaki, Poti and Khurcha). The number of participants at the meetings is growing every month. Not only women but also men are interested in legal issues.
Meetings with the lawyer, held in August, related to issues of resettlement, divorce, inheritance, and social subsidy.

In Women’s Support Centres in Kutaisi, Tskhaltubo, Khoni, Senaki, Poti and Khurcha were held group consulting meetings with psychologist which were attended by 109 women aged 17 to 57.
- We feel that we are being manipulated. Why it happens so? Why it’s possible to manipulate by people?
- People have weak points – peculiar buttons. These buttons are our stereotypes, envy, fears, unclaimed abilities and unsatisfied needs and many others that form a unique personality, - says the psychologist.

Meetings with lawyers were held in six Women’s Support Centres.
Couseling regarding legal issues are still very important for women IDPs. Accordingly at the meetings with lawyers there always many participants interested in the following issues: the Law on domestic violence - protection and arrest warrants; resettlement of IDP; divorce; protection of children’s rights etc.
At the meetings participants said that the legal counseling plays the role of a certain guide among IDP population.

Women IDPs living in
collective centers still feel offence in their souls, because they can not
return to their homes. They are often longing for their native land, native
homes.
Psychological
counseling provided at Women’s Support Centres in six cities help women IDPs overcome
their grief, adjust to the positive.
- I understood that
resentment captures the inner space of the person, and stays there for a very
long time, and the person becomes unable to perceive the real world.
- We - people are given
life only once and must live it in peace and love. We must understand this and
try not to go back to the painful past.
In May, there are
provided 6 psychological counseling with women aged 17 to 65.

In April, the psychologist of Fund "Sukhumi” conducted 6 group meetings
at Women's Support Centers. Participants of the meetings were women aged 19 to
60 years.
Conversations with the psychologist referred to the fundamental rights
of women - whether woman is protected from violence, and whether she has any
hope for the help from the State. According to the participants of the
meetings, assistance to women victims of violence from the State is still insufficient,
as the law on domestic violence is not operating well.
They stressed that still there are stereotypical attitudes society,
because victim of violence is forced to endure insults, as she is sure that
society sympathizes her little.
Participants also talked about the special role of non-governmental
organizations and the importance of talking with the psychologist.
- Innovations related to the issue of certificates of birth, marriage, divorce, death, as well as passports. Free consultations on these issues were provided by the lawyer in the Women's Support Centers. Number of participants at meetings, especially young persons, is growing every month.
- Free legal consulting is particularly important because often people do not know where they should apply, or how to act in order to legally resolve their problems, - this was participants’ opinion.

Public receptions continue to work actively, providing counseling for women IDPs. Particularly active discussions were carried out on the issues of IDPs’ housing, legal procedures for distribution of property upon divorce and the issue whom of the parent children stay with after divorce.
Consultations will take place in the next month too.

"Public reception" continued active work in February.
Six meetings were held with female IDPs in Kutaisi, Khoni and Tskhaltubo.
Special attention was paid to the legitimization of premises on the basis of
the State Strategy on IDPs.
Consultations were provided on the issues of taking credits, divorce,
division of property and inheritance.
There were also discussed the facts of domestic violence, women were
provided with the information about protection and arrest warrant and the rules
of its issuance.

Fund "Sukhumi" launched a new project "Public receptions". The main purpose of the project is to provide legal advice for women IDPs in Kutaisi, Tskhaltubo and Khoni.
Twice a month, women IDPs have the opportunity to visit the "Public reception" and get legal advice.
The first meetings have already been organized in the receptions.
Women IDPs were consulted on different topical themes: issues related to the cost of electricity, payment of alimony, registration as an individual entrepreneur etc.
Lawyers in the "Public receptions" are ready to provide advice the next month.

Psychologist of Fund "Sukhumi" held a meeting with IDP women in the Women’s Support Center of Khoni. The conversation touched upon issues of family relationships between spouses, reasons of family conflicts, and that contributes to domestic violence. Participants received a lot of useful advices from a psychologist.
Basis of restoration of Georgian citizenship, granting citizenship to a person who is married to a citizen of Georgia, the restoration of inheritance, a form of compilation of inheritance, benefits for socially vulnerable citizens, the rights of spouses at divorce and rules for the payment of state duty on basis of judicial decisions, reasons for terminating parental rights - these are issues on which the lawyer of fund "Sukhumi" consulted women IDPs in Kutaisi (08/12/10) and Khoni (09/12/10).
