For almost two month now every Thursday at four o’clock a group of 10-15 people meets in Fund Sukhumi’s head office in Kutaisi. They are a mixed group of people, ages ranging from 12 to 22, both girls and boys. They slip in through the door secretly, stay for an hour and leave as quietly as they came. Their visit to the office would pass unnoticed weren’t it for the laughter that can sometimes be heard through the walls in the other rooms. Who are they and what are they plotting on? Well, without making it more complicated than it is, they are English Learners attending Fund Sukhumi’s new German volunteers Speaking Club Ellen Shroeder..

A Speaking Club, that’s right! People who already have some English skills come and meet to play games, to watch films, to simulate interviews and to debate on a topic that changes every week. Those topics are pretty diverse – we talk about foods, traditions, work, children’s needs or national holidays and learn from each other’s different cultural backgrounds. And by and round we also just have fun.

The Speaking Club will be going on for another month and we’ll see what will be coming afterwards. Probably we’ll go in for another round – feel free to join!
