The meetings with girls
are still very interesting. 6 meetings were held in January, where the Law of
Domestic Violence was discussed. Interesting real-life examples were
provided at the discussions.
Kutaisi, 15.01.14 - The implementation of the Law
will lead to major changes in society – say all 12 participants of the meeting.
They, as a result of frequent meetings, have a power to protect their own
rights.
Photi, 16.01.14 – 13 girls and 3 boys took parts
in the meeting. The conversation about Defense Mechanisms caused many
questions. One of the participants mentioned: "Georgian consciousness is not
ready for such kind of changes. It is very difficult to solve family problems
with the help of police.”
Tskaltubo, 17.01.14 - 12 girls were
discussing the law in the interactive way. The meeting members
announced, that "the law exists but in many cases the victims don’t use it
because they have no hope.” That’s why we need to work more with society.
Khoni, 20.01.14 -
Among 14 participants there were girls and boys. Boys were especially
active, they discussed the alarming statistics of violence and its causes. As
Giorgi Nachkebia mentioned: Society and the law stand apart from each other,
everyone should now about their rights. Such kind of meetings will change the
consciousness of society.
Senaki, 23.01.14 - From the very beginning some of 15 participants were speaking
about the obedience of wives to husbands, others
- about
strengthening their positions. But almost everyone believed the
law was the best tool to prevent violence.
Koki, 27.01.14 – Here the
discussion was very interesting as it involved the most number
of participants – 17 young people. Most of participants still believe that despite the Law woman can’t use
it and protect herself because of traditions. However, they do not deny that
the stereotypes should be broken up.
