-                     Is society ready to confront violence? How relevant is this problem and should victim do acrifice to avoid it? - a lively discussion on these issues was held at the Women’s Support Center in Poti.

The opinion of one of the participants, Mai Abshilava: "Violence against women is one of the major problems in our society. Hard times may come in the life of any woman, but if she knows her rights and can fight, she will always be able to change her life for the better".

In October, similar meetings were held in Kutaisi, Khoni, and Tskhaltubo.

On October 28, at 12 o'clock in the central part of Kutaisi activists of fund "Sukhumi" handed out leaflets to citizens, highlighting the UN Resolution 1325.

A Peace action was devoted to the tenth anniversary of the Resolution.

Woman, peace and security – inscriptions on T-shirts acquainted citizens with the essence of the Resolution.

The event was covered by local television companies "Rioni" and "Mega TV”.

Activities, dedicated to the UN Resolution 1325, passed in different cities of Georgia.

Within the framework of the project aimed at mobilization of IDP women and their integration into the local community in Imereti region through monitoring of gender policy of the local self government there were carried out two-day trainings in Kutaisi, Khoni, and Tskhaltubo.

15 active women were selected in each region.

The following topics were discussed at the trainings: activism, volunteering, communication.

The second day of the training covered the following issues: advocacy, selection of issue, elaboration of strategy, objectives, technique, establishing of relations with government. As a result participants elaborated specific drafts of Action plan:

-                     rehabilitation of the school # 4 in Khoni, pick up of household waste from collective centres in Kutaisi, allocation of city transport in Tskhaltubo.

All the three Action plans were selected according to priorities all of them can be implemented and should be lobbied in the local self government of Kutaisi, Khoni, and Tskhaltubo.

 

The project is financed with the support of the U.S. Embassy Democracy Commission Small Grant Program.
