“Such meetings can change many incorrect impressions and attitudes”.

“It will be great, if such meetings have systematic character and lots of people participate in it”.

Similar responds were made by the youth on the work-shops, which were conducted by the members of Ozurgeti GAC in frames of 16 day campaign. The issue of the work-shops was: “types of domestic violence, referral ways and mechanisms”.

The participants realized that violence is not a problem of only one family or concrete person, but it is a social problem. They changed attitude towards violence and expressed a will to be involved in preventive activities.

6 meetings were held in November with compactly resided IDPs. The main issue of the lawyer was “Georgian law on prevention of domestic violence, victim protection and assistance” and changes in it.

The main issue of the meetings was informing society regarding a fact that victim of domestic violence is protected and the rapist is punished by the law. According changes in the law, the rapist is punished with the term of one year.

The meetings were attended by 59 citizens. Individual consultations were made.

On November 28, a memorandum was signed between the fund “Sukhumi” and bureau of legal assistance service of Kutaisi – Imereti. The aim of the memorandum is collaboration for ensuring development of democratic principles in civil society, achieving gender justice and involvement of women in decision-making process.

The organizations plan to conduct different informational campaigns for raising public awareness.

On December 28, in the library of Khoni, the members of leader girls’ school conducted round table on: “violence towards the women”. The pupils of 9-th and 11-th grades actively discussed the problem. To their opinion domestic violence is caused by low level of education among the women, economical dependence, lack of knowledge about their rights.

At the end of discussion, the young people concluded that violence is unacceptable. They paid particular attention to bringing up the youth with healthy views.
