Procedures on provision of internally-displaced persons – IDPs with long-term premises, role of local self-government in provision of social rights’ protection, protection of children’s interests in family relations and changes and additions made in Election Code of Georgia, solution of property disputes during divorce – this is a list of issues being of special interest for citizens at the meetings with lawyer.

The meetings were carried out in Women’s Support Centres (Kutaisi, Khoni, Tskhaltubo, Poti, Senaki, Khurcha). Citizens had possibility to be provided with legal consultations on the aforementioned issues.

Another pre-election meeting of Khobi Club of Women-Voters was held in the village Baia.

Leader of the Club and majority candidate, Manana Shulaia, running for elections in the same village, organized a meeting with members of the Club of Women-Voters, female residents of the village in her house.

- I invited you to my house to show that I am the same woman as you. I am worried about on the same problems as your families. Today, we are going to talk about general issues. We’ll focus on specific issues of concern to residents of our village and require timely solutions.

At the meeting the majority candidate acquainted attendees with their election programme. She mentioned that if she wins election, issues of employment will be the priority ones, as this problem is especially acute in the village Baia as well as throughout Georgia.

Вefore the local self-government elections of 2010 Fund "Sukhumi” released the special issue of the newspaper "Women’s voice in politics”. It covered: "The results of the local elections of 2006, when 177 women were elected among 1590 members of local self-governments” (11,1 % women).

What kind of local government do we want in Georgia to have?

This depends on us, thus we should vote for women in local authorities, where women and men will be presented equally.

Before elections, Fund "Sukhumi” carried out the work on mobilization the society, for presenting more women candidates in election lists. League of women-voters actively works for supporting these women. As the candidates, more women were presented in the election lists. Some of them are the members of Clucs of women voters of Fund "Sukhumi”.

In the newspaper, there is published the list of women candidates, who are the members of Clubs of women voters, including their biographical information and the program thesis of Nato Katamadze, Lia Gvenetadze, Natia Tsetskhaldze (Kutaisi), Nona Toloraia, Manana Todua (Zugdidi), Maia Shalamberidze, Nana Ioseliani (Tskhaltubo), Manana Shulaia (Khobi), Darejan Tskhvitaria (Poti), Nazibrola Kobuladze (Batumi). 

The newspaper is issued with the circulation of 400 copies and dismissed in Kutaisi, Zugdidi, Tskhaltubo, Ozurgeti, Khobi, Batumi and Poti.

The main massage of the special issue is: to vote for the worthy women candidates!

Four workshops on the topic of elections were held in Zugdidi. Participants of the meetings were provided with information about functions of the Local self-government, changes made in Election code and necessity of increase of women’s representation in politics. 61 women took part in the workshops, among them 3 majority candidates.

After acquainting participants with theoretical material, practical exercises used at the workshops caused great interest. There were defined competences of the central and local governments, held discussions about positive and negative sides of changes made in Election legislation.

Participants of the workshops had possibility to learn about election programmes of women-candidates running for the local self-government elections. The conversation touched upon necessity to support women and positive results regarding increase of women’s representation in the Local self-government as well as in Georgian politics as a whole.
