The fund “Sukhumi” and Batumi gender advisory council conducted the research “Analysis of the local budget envisaging gender aspects”, several gender problematic issues were divided: availability of pre-school education and conditions, existing in pre-school premises were among them.
The fund “Sukhumi” invited chairpersons of the kindergartens, parents, representatives of self-government, psychologists, representatives of medical sphere, journalists, NGO sector, and members of “public advisors’ council”.
Discussions round the issue proved actuality of the case. There was a position, that despite of efforts from the side of self-government, it is impossible to satisfy all beneficiaries in a short period, so looking for the alternative ways must be carried out more quickly. There were also raised the questions regarding: increasing of teachers’ salaries, more sincere attitude towards the young families, close cooperation between parents and psychologists of the kindergartens, raising of the staff qualification, allocation of local resources for the children health control, necessity of special teachers.

On September 23, the fund “Sukhumi” conducted ordinary meeting for the local media sources in the center of democratic involvement of Batumi. There was announced information regarding the work of gender advisory council, conducted researches, also regarding the activities for advocacy of the issues regarding women social protection, carried out by Batumi Voter Women’s Club.
The members of the GAC mentioned, that they permanently feel support from the side of media and appreciate their high social responsibility towards sensitive attitude to the citizens’ problems. It was mentioned, that number of questions, initiated by the council, was aired by local media.

The 9-th ordinary meeting of Batumi GAC was devoted to discussion of the results of conducted research: “Analysis of Batumi 2014 year budget, envisaging gender aspects”. Elaboration of suggestions and recommendations started, which will be submitted to the local self-government, in order to envisage gender parameters in new budget programs and projects.
The meeting was also attended by the representatives of Kutaisi and Ozurgeti Gender Advisory Councils. It made possible to exchange valuable information for sharing experience. The members of the meeting considered the initiative of the fund “Sukhumi” interesting, regarding creation of GAC network and planning of joint activities.
The schedule of the meeting was aired by the local media, which periodically expresses interest towards the gender issues.

What is gender budget, how it differs from the traditional budget, what does envisaging of gender budget in local programs and projects give and how real are the arguments of gender specialists regarding this. TV “Channel 4” invited the members of Batumi GAC for discussion.
The TV program presented a story about the results of the research, conducted by the fund “Sukhumi” and the council and showed different influences, which concrete program and project has made on women, men or other groups, underlined the needs, what results did the previous program have and how fair was existing resource allocated among different gender groups.
The council members talked about the results, achieved by conducted work, underlined that they appreciate readiness of local government, to collaborate with the council and wait for concrete support from their side, in envisaging recommendations especially in co-financing the social projects, which are planned to be presented in the nearest future.

TV “Channel 4” in Batumi, aired a TV add regarding the public discussion, initiated by Batumi gender advisory council regarding: the service of pre-school education – as the main component of self-government gender policy. What situation is in Batumi in this direction? What problems do the government face? Staff of the kindergartens, parents, what may be the alternative of lack of state kindergartens? Together with the strict discussions, several suggestions were announced: promotion of qualification raising for the staff of kindergartens and increasing of salaries, necessity of health examination of the children, as the guarantee of dangerous diseases prevention, establishment of the social collaboration system between psychologists and special teachers, parents and pre-school premises.
