On October 8 a round table with Participation of representatives of 3 cities and 3 regions was held in Borjomi. The head of Borjomi department of Samtskhe – Javakheti region – Vazha Berdzenishvili was invited as an expert, who presented detailed information to the participants regarding priorities and news of the Ministry of Refugees and Accomodation regarding the issue of domestic violence.

As the expert mentioned, the Ministry announced this year as the year of zero tolerance.

The participants shared information regarding the situation existing in the regions. At the end of meeting several suggestions were presented aiming at collaboration with state structures and the Ministries.

On October 6-8, in the hotel of “Borjomi Palace” a training for the representatives of 6 cities and regions of Western Georgia (Kutaisi, Poti, Senaki, Tskaltubo, Zugdidi, Khoni), was held on: “Prevention Strategies Against Domestic Violence”.

Lots of questions were discussed on training: gender, gender violation, state law on domestic violence, national action plan, Istanbul convention and so on.

Representatives of local self-government elaborated strategic action plan according cities and regions, for prevention of violence and protection of the victims.

Evaluations of the participants:

“We once again realized our role and possibilities and will act accordingly in concrete cases”.

“If we speak about the issue, that means that the problem exists. If the problem exists, we must solve it. Informational knowledge will help us in practice”.

On October 1, the assistant of the fund “Sukhumi” conducted a meeting in the private culinary college. It was attended by 14 girls. The topic of the meeting was ethics, esthetics and sexual education.

The audience had a lack of information regarding these issues, though they took part in discussion. The other meeting was also planned, which will have positive influence on them.

This issue was also discussed with 12 girls in Tskaltubo WSC, they expressed their opinions and spoke about the problems.

-It is not so convenient to speak about sexual education, but ethics and esthetics is too important. Similar meetings will partly improve the problems, existing in our relations, mentioned one of the girls.

The meeting was also held in Khoni WSC. It was participated by 9 boys and 2 girls. The topic of the meeting caused active discussion, the boys were too active. One of them mentioned: “It is an interesting issue, but the society is not ready for the discussion. Similar meetings will be good background for this.”
