Debates in Senaki

Senaki Youth Center arranged a debate in school number 7 of Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia. What do our own rights mean, how we are protected by the law, how women's rights are protected in Georgia, how it is associated with stereotypes and traditions - the debate was held in this direction.

Young people believe that according the law all of them have same rights, but everyone knows that women's rights are limited. Most participants are looking for the reasons in the mentality and stereotypes. There were other considerations too. According to one participant, traditions are all right, there is no reason change anything, the man has always been the head of the family, and it is quite acceptable.

"My wife must not work better for her is to stay home and raise children," – this opinion had a lot of opponents. It has been announced that women's rights are violated, when her choice is limited or she becomes depended on the other.

Debate participants consider that - if we want to form a democratic, egalitarian society, it is necessary to continue the discussion on this topic, thinking that young people have taken the right direction.
