"Gender Advisory Council - improved outlook, strengthening women's rights and good governance in the region”.

 

What is the function of the advisory council, who can become its member, how it will cooperate with the local authorities, how it should be involved in determining of local priorities, the study of gender needs and elaboration of the relevant programs - representatives of Fund "Sukhumi" carried out a regular third meeting with members of Batumi City Council, where they shared information and identified prospects for cooperation.

The project is especially important for the Deputy chairperson of the City Council Vaja Verulidze as it is aimed at strengthening of the state and civil cooperation. According to him, a greater involvement of citizens in addressing important issues of the city is needed.

The City Council expressed the full readiness to cooperate with women's organization within the framework of the certain project activities. The first step of the project is the elaboration of a Memorandum of cooperation between Fund "Sukhumi" and the City Council.

A regular debate were held at Tskhaltubo Youth Centre.

Participants talked about conflicts in family that lead to violence. The majority of participants were boys. In their opinion such debates form positive relations among young people. This means that the risk of domestic violence decreases.

Representatives of Fund "Sukhumi” visited Batumi Archeological museum, which is in the process of rehabilitation and is placed temporary in another building.

Museum staff learned about the work of Fund "Sukhumi", received information about the new project funded by U.S. State Department. Representatives of the fund listened to the history of the museum with interest.

Batumi Archaeological Museum was established in 1994. Its funds contain cultural monuments discovered at various times on the territory of Adjara.

According to the director of the museum Amiran Kakhidze, among 37 employees - 27 are women! And it is not surprising that employees want to see even greater participation of women in all spheres.

Rehabilitation of the museum, funded by the local government, will be completed in February next year. Batumi Club of Women Voters will be one of the first visitors. Members of the club will be able to carry out meetings here that will promote to the development of cultural relations.
