Representatives of the Fund "Sukhumi" met with the Executive Acting Mayor of Kutaisi Shota Murgulia and familiarized him with the information about the 16-day campaign.

 About the beginning of the campaign received the information and the employees of the City Council.

Nobody is surprised by the actions of Fund "Sukhumi", since we express protest against violence against women in such a manner for more than 10 years.

Kutaisi

At 2 p.m. participants of the action – members of Fund "Sukhumi”, Fund of Women-Entrepreneurs, representatives of partner NGOs, activists of Youth Centre, actors of school forum-theatres, journalists were standing near the Mayor’s office of Kutaisi.

There were more slogans than in previous years, but the special attention was drawn to one of them:  "Over the past few months seven women were killed in Western Georgia as a result of violence!

According to the UN, every third woman in the world is a victim of violence!

SOS – violence is beside us!

By tradition action was held in silent.

In parallel there were distributed leaflets, white ribbons and there were recorded television and radio interviews.

Khurcha

40 persons – activists of the Women Support and Youth Centres gathered at the action in Khurcha. 

For the people who were brought together near to Abkhazia the main slogan of the campaign "From Peace in the Home to Peace in the World!” has become especially important.

Participants of the action send a peaceful message to the residents of Abkhazia and the whole world.

Poti

Together against violence gathered activists of Fund "Sukhumi" at the action in Poti. They were joined by representatives of the Gender Network of Samegrelo, teachers and journalists.

Senaki

A crowded action took place in Senaki. The protest against violence against women brought together representatives of different spheres: Municipality Council and Board, the Red Cross Society, medical workers, city cleaning service, non-governmental organizations, journalists, representatives of urban schools and schools of the resort Mendji.

The action drew attention of the whole city through many supporters and relevant slogans.

Tskhaltubo

By tradition the action began in the central park of the city. Then the action participants moved to the Sports Palace, where was held a flash mob.

Participants of two events united – they declared about the campaign and distributed leaflets, calendars, and posters.

Participants of the flashmob continued their performance with white ribbons.

Khoni

Here, in the central square of the city gathered about 40 persons, including young women and men.

Slogans and different materials informed population of the city about the campaign.

Participants of the action divided into groups and distributed dozens of leaflets in shops, banks, and markets.

The society was once again reminded about the beginning of informational campaign and the extended participation of fund "Sukhumi” in the campaign by the TV program on air of "TV Rioni”

 "Since morning we’ve got so many congratulations with starting campaign. At first it was unusual, but then we perceived that it was the recognition of importance of the campaign and social values. This year we had unprecedented support from local government in the whole West Georgia - initially campaign attributes were allocated in all visible places.

The regional and central media provide us with constant support – we respect high social responsibility of journalists toward the problem of domestic violence. 

Fund "Sukhumi" with partner NGOs are getting involved in more than one hundred events, that enhances the overall effort to overcome the problem, "- said the program participants.

 "Unfortunately, domestic violence is not perceived by everyone as the public problem and social evil," considered the forum - theater young participants.

They played the scenes on live which show everyday devastating process around us.

Unfortunately, sometimes it is impossible to improve their results.

During the program was shown a TV plot about actions held by Fund "Sukhumi" on the 25^th of November - the first day of the campaign - which showed once again the irreconcilable attitude of the majority of society to any form of violence.

Participants of the School of Young Leaders actively involved in the campaign. They participated in the actions carried out in different places, and then started to conduct their activities.

The group of Young Leaders’ School of Fund "Sukhumi" from Khurcha held a round table meeting, where they discussed the topic of gender-based violence.

At the beginning of the meeting participants were provided with the information about the 16- day campaign and information materials: leaflets, calendars, posters...

All participants had white ribbons - a symbol of the campaign on their chests.

According to the roundtable participants, in villages, especially in Khurcha mentality and stereotypes are very strong and woman is a victim of gender-based violence. It was mentioned that any form of violence is a crime and daily work is needed to eradicate it.

Today, November 25 is the International Day of Struggle Against Violence Against Women.

Today the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence Campaign has begun.

First time in our 12-year history of campaigns the first who joined the campaign were local self-governments – few days earlier there was hanged a ribbon with the slogan "Together - against violence against women!" in the central street of Poti.

In Senaki due to strong wind they had to hang a ribbon twice and in Zugdidi they needed firemen’s help...

In Kutaisi there was installed a billboard with the slogan "Together – against violence against women!"

From today, the ribbons will be hanged on the central roads of Khoni, Tskhaltubo, Kutaisi ...

In such an active manner local Sakrebulos and Municipality Boards joined the campaign!
