Since the establishment of the Gender Advisory Council (GAC) in Senaki, local journalists participate in all events and cover the work of this new structure.

The regular meeting with journalists showed that they are motivated, interested in gender issues and are ready to promote these issues through media.

A regular meeting of the Gender Advisory Council (GAC) was held in the conference room of Senaki Municipality Council (Sakrebulo).

The meeting was led by Natalia Khubua, a chairperson of the GAC and a chairperson of the Finance and Budget Commission of Sakrebulo.

Based on the agenda participants of the training (organized in Borjomi for the members of Senaki, Kutaisi and Ozurgeti Sakrebulos) shared their impressions from the training with GAC members and submitted a draft of a strategic plan on gender equality elaborated at the training by the group from Senaki.

At the meeting was discussed the existing gender situation of the town. Members of the GAC were acquainted with the amendments made to the GAC’s Statute as well as with the work plan on assessment of local gender needs.

They resolved that the GAC will continue work on analysis of a gender situation and elaborate a strategic plan on gender equality to be submitted to Sakrebulo.

The cycle of Youth debates is still going on. The topic: Human Security appeared to be vital and people gathered in six Youth Centers express their opinion, discuss seven components of human security, and determine their share in problem solving.

On February in Kutaisi Youth Centre was held the regular meeting. Young people regard that many components of human security are violated, and we face so many problems in everyday life, that the feeling of insecurity is natural. That’s why we should act and create the safer atmosphere to live in.

 On February 18, the meeting in Poti highlighted the ecological hazards the population is facing due to the problem with fishing industry. The high rate of unemployment is a hazardous factor as well, as it is termed as the number one problem people are afraid of.

The youth declared that they often create unsafe situation themselves, so we should protect each other’s rights.

The debates on "Human Security" will and up in Khurcha, were the local youth young people from Kutaisi will sum up their activities.

Poti, February 11-th

The meeting was held attended by 12 young girls and boys.

The topic of the meeting was the creation of gender balance in Georgia.

As it was the first time the participants have attended the meeting, it started with introduction. An active discussion was caused by the main topic of the meeting. The participants mentioned that it is hard to change social consciousness in our country, as traditions and customs are the important integral part of our life. Christina Kharchilava expressed an interesting idea :”We already have a gender balance in my family. Some people talk behind our backs that my husband is a weak person, but we know what is good for our family.”

The meeting was attended by 15 school pupils.

The topic of the meeting was gender balance and Georgian society, its traditions and stereotypes.

The participants expressed interesting ideas.

"These topics must be discussed with the youth. I like when the relationships are balanced on equality and the responsibility is shared”-mentioned a mail participant of the meeting.

"I don’t like my parents’ relationships. I am annoyed with my mother’s obedience. I think our consciousness needs to be changed .It is far better to leave in equal society and the future generations will have healthier attitudes”-said a female participants.

During the meeting with the psychologist in the Women Support Centre of Tskhaltubo the work was carried out with associative and mental cards. Participants were surprised by their cards which they chose and by interpretations of the psychologist. They saw the hidden sides and interesting details of their life. The whole group was involved in the work - all explained their cards.

The meeting held at the Women Support Centre of Khoni was attended by 16 girls and boys. They discussed how much they were realized in society. They talked about different factors - socio-economic, cultural and intellectual barriers that prevent them from expanding the range of relations and contribute to the loss of the stimulus and a real self-esteem.

On the 18th of February the psychologist of Fund "Sukhumi”, in addition to the traditional meeting with the women, conducted two individual consultations at the Women Support Centre. One of the participants complained of psychological trauma as a result of family problems, and the other could not explain the neural actions of her child. The psychologist gave them relevant advises and promised to help them in the future too.
